Associate Professor Damon Kent received his BEng (Hons), MPhil and PhD degrees from The University of Queensland. He is currently Associate Professor of Engineering Sciences within the School of Science, Technology and Engineering at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC). He is currently Program Coordinator responsible for the development of teaching and research in the Mechanical Engineering program.

Damon has worked as a mechanical engineer in commercial manufacturing environments and has an active portfolio of industry focused research. He is passionate about fostering strong links between teaching and research. He was the recipient of Res-Teach awards in 2013 and 2014 from The University of Queensland to support his efforts to enhance teaching and learning through exposure of students to current research and modern learning practices.

Damon's research interests centre around development and processing of metallic alloys for structural applications across the medical, aerospace, and automotive industries. He has interests in light metals (titanium and aluminium based alloys and composites) in aspects such as phase transformations and precipitation reactions, deformation and ultra-fine grain materials, powder metallurgy processing and additive manufacturing. He is an expert in materials characterisation techniques and has extensive experience in electron microscopy, x-ray analysis, mechanical property evaluation, and other materials characterisation methods.
